Final Plans in Place to "Reshape" Lehigh Acres. May be Placed on Hold

Last Saturday, a meeting was held at the East County Library to discuss future developments in Lehigh Acres. The main topic of discussion was finalization on plans for two activity centers in the area. One of the centers is a major project that would revitalize the downtown area on Homestead Road.

Saturday's meeting was one of the last of nearly a decades worth of planning. Many residents praised these two projects and have stated that this would most likely reshape the image of Lehigh Acres.

Recommendations from the meeting were sent to the Board of County Commissioners for approval.

Unfortunately, one of the main concerns is the ability to fund these projects. The Lehigh Acres Planning Corp. estimates that the cost of the two centers will be between 5 to 8 Million dollars.

County leaders are considering suspending impact fees for a 2 year period to increase building. Although the Lehigh plans are not totally dependent on these impact fees, it is possible that the above projects would be suspended during that time.
