County Seeking Public Input on Existing Orange River Paddlecraft Launch

Lee County Parks and Recreation is seeking public input for improvements to an existing paddlecraft launch at its property on the Orange River in Buckingham.

Staff will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Buckingham Community Center, 4940 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers, FL 33905.

For discussion will be the existing three-acre Orange River Canoe Park, a primitive launch site near the corner of Buckingham and Cemetery roads that has been part of the Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail since 2007.

Staff members, who conducted an online survey to garner public input earlier this year, are in need of feedback on a plan to move limited parking onto the site and make the launch area more accessible and user-friendly. No plans exist to put in structures such as restrooms or a pavilion.

For more information about the public meeting, call (239) 533-7446 or email jlamey@leegov.com.
